Joseph Yobo Questions and Yet Four Games to a Nigerian Record. . .

After the recent USA game, Nigeria’s Joseph Yobo has come under severe scrutiny and criticism. Some of it have been deserved and others not. It is important to point out that while one could argue that Yobo’s current quality means he can no longer start for Nigeria, it is questionable that you can argue successfully that he does not belong to a Nigerian 23-person squad to the 2014 World Cup. Joseph Yobo is already the first Nigerian player to appear in the national team colors in 96 games. He is fast approaching a century of games for Nigeria. The closest player to Yobo’s mark is Vincent Enyeama who has now notched 91 games and counting and may well be the one with the record number of appearances before all is said and done. Yobo’s mark is indeed remarkable considering that Nigeria has never had a player with 100 appearances and, thus, it is worthwhile celebrating this.
